Stone Brewery Pale Ale

4 out of 5 Hop Cones

Truth be known, I am really partial to Stone Brewery Beers. They are true craft brewer that emphasizes unique flavors and care into each Beer. Alcohol content on this one is 5.4% so you can easily enjoy a few and savor the flavors and fragrances. This beer is an English style Pale with amber color and a unique hop blend of Columbus and Abtanum hops. The flavor is hoppy and refreshing with some malt character and again that unique hop blend aftertaste. I was a little surprised when drinking this one in that I felt the alcohol right away...hmmm...I must not be drinking often enough...what a light weight! I enjoyed this beer very much and would happily keep it around as a "go-to" beer for most any occasion. Stonebrewery.com

Xingu Black Beer

1 out of 5

As you may have noticed from my rating of this (beer?), I did not like it. Brewed by Cervejaria Sul Brasileira (no link) of Brazil this beverage is 4.7% ABV. I have seen this bottle for a while on the shelves and thought the labeling was cool and I like dark beers. So a "Black Beer" must be really dark and delicious, right? Wrongo Bucko! The beer was definitely dark but I did not detect much of a smell. The taste was more like a carbonated malted beverage instead of Beer. The overly sweet flavor also made me think it was an alcohol injected soda. Gross! If this is a Beer, I have no idea what style to label it. So, if you are feeling contradictory and monetarily wasteful ($1.89 a bottle); give this thing a try and tell me what you think. I would not recommend it. Pass me that PBR...in a can!

Spaten Oktoberfest

4 out 5 Hops

So after enjoying the He'Brew "Messiah Bold", I switched gears to try a lager. I must say there was a little disgust in my thoughts because I don't like many lagers. Something about too many North American Light Lagers as a teenager I suppose. They tend to have that..uh.."lager aftertaste". Well lets just say I was pleasantly surprised by this one. Its a dark amber colored lager with a very faint lager smell and little to no foam. The ABV is 5.9%. I really really enjoyed the taste of this! If only all lagers were this good. It has a very
balanced hop/malt clean flavor to it. I would recommend splitting a cold six-pack of this Munich goodness between you and your buddy this summer. http://spatenusa.com/6_what_new/6_3_promotions/index.htm. Yumm

He' Brew Messiah Bold

3.5 out of 5

My first review. I recently made a trip to my local wine and beer shop (http://www.pugetsoundwinecellars.com/) to load up an assorted six-pack of malted goodness. The first brew I tried was He' Brew "Messiah Bold" (http://www.shmaltz.com/HEBREW/genesis_messiah.html). Its a Dark Brown Ale that is kosher certified. I didn't see it noted on the bottle, but the alcohol is 5.6% ABV. It had a great chocolatey smell and lightly carbonated. The taste is balanced minimal hop flavor like a porter. Very drinkable and no aftertaste. If you are in the mood for a brown ale, this is a very tasty one. I didn't find anything really striking about it in taste, but the labeling and notes therein are a great read. Lots of schtick with bible references. I paid about $ 1.59 for the bottle.

Welcome to my blog!

A brief introduction to my blog. I started this blog to document and review all the tasty alcohol elixir that has so wonderfully graced my palette. Not so much to convey all the subtle nuances and other bullshit notes some alcohol reviews do, but more as a record for myself of what I have drank. I tend to forget over time the individual bottle here and there or the online cocktail recipe I attempted late one night. Here I will provide a picture and a brief review with a rating system of 1 to 5, 5 being the best and obviously created by the Gods themselves for their own enjoyment. Please feel free to comment and write me with any corrections or questions. So sit back
